Diego García Saiz is a Full Professor ("Profesor Titular") in the Software Engineering and Real-Time Group of the Department of Computer Science and Electronics since January 2022. He holds an active six-year research accreditation, "sexenio" (awarded in 2019), and two five-year teaching accreditations, "quinquenios". He earned his PhD Cum Laude in 2016.
His research focuses on Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Software Engineering. He has conducted research stays at the University of Córdoba and at the Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support in Porto. His publication record includes 14 articles in high-impact journals, 3 book chapters, and over 30 conference papers (several of which are ranked A in the CORE classification). His work has garnered over 500 citations, resulting in an h-index of 13 (Google Scholar).
He has participated as a researcher in numerous competitive national and European projects and has led or collaborated on 83 projects with companies and other external entities. He is also a member of the Program Committees of several prestigious international conferences.
In the teaching domain, he lectures on Data Science, Data Management, and Software Engineering for undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science, as well as for the Master's programs in Data Science, Computer Engineering, and Mathematics and Computing. He has been the lead instructor for several courses, with experience teaching 15 different subjects and accumulating over 1,400 hours of instruction. He maintains an average teaching quality rating of 4.7 out of 5. He has supervised numerous undergraduate and master's theses, along with academic internships, and has served as a tutor for collaboration grants from the Ministry of Education.
Furthermore, he has taught and presented in various University Expert, Specialization, and Summer courses, participated in Teaching Innovation projects, and has publications in the field of Computer Science education.
Regarding his administrative service, he currently serves in the University's executive leadership as Head of the Administrative Simplification Area. Previously, he was part of the Dean's team at the Faculty of Sciences as Coordinator of Postgraduate Studies, EUNICE, and Internationalization. He has also held the position of President of the Work Council and has participated in various Quality and Academic Committees for different degree programs. Additionally, he has been a member of the Governing Council of the University of Cantabria, its Permanent Commission, and the University Assembly.
