Innovative projects in prehistory, heritage and education in Spanish.
The action-lines in the Heritage and Language areas of excellence are aimed at promoting an international scope of lines which have a great strategic value for Cantabria: Spanish Language, Ontology of Heritage and Prehistory. The International Centre for Higher Studies in Spanish has been set up within the work setting that the UC and the Comillas Foundation have been carrying out, with the objective of becoming the international reference centre in the teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE) and in the study of Spanish culture.
The centre channels an important effort made by Cantabria International Campus, devoted to creating a research structure which will provide sustainability to its educational programmes.
The UC and the Marcelino Botín Foundation have set up two fundamental projects for the conservation and dissemination of regional heritage. On the one hand, a semantic web-site that is open to the public, showing the tangible and intangible heritage in Cantabria, and on the other hand, the model of integral treatment which has been developed in the Nansa Valley, systematic research which provides adequate protection of the environment and better conditions for establishing specific action-lines in it.
Likewise, through the International Institute of Prehistoric Research in Cantabria, an organism set up between the UC, the Government of Cantabria and the Santander Bank and in association with the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), research action-lines within the Altamira Museum are being promoted.
