The University of Cantabria (UC) is working on the Human Resources Strategy for Research (HRS4R), a tool launched by the European Commission to support research institutions in the implementation of the Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers (Charter and Code).
On January 8th, 2018, the UC acquired the commitment with the European Commission to adopt
the Charter and the Code. These documents constitute the frame of reference
at the European Union for an optimal management of research talent,
defining in 40 principles the rights and obligations of researchers and
the entities that hire them.
The adoption of the Charter and the Code is regulated by the so-called
"Human Resources Strategy for Researchers" (HRS4R), a process that every institution must complete to obtain the
HR Excellence in Research seal. This process
includes the realization of a diagnosis of the situation on the degree
of compliance with the 40 principles of the Charter and the Code and the
definition of an Action Plan to correct the detected deviations and
implement research human resources management actions in accordance with
the quality standards represented by those principles.
With the aim of ensuring a suitable framework for researchers and contribute to the enhancement of the prestige and attractiveness of research careers within the European Research Area, the UC has successfully completed the
initial phase of the HRS4R process, by achieving, on June 8th, 2020, the
"Excellence in Human Resources for Research" seal and its use to promote a stimulating and favourable working environment for its researchers and ensuring fair and transparent procedures for the recruitment and evaluation of researchers at our institution.
The
UC is now immersed in the
implementation phase of this
process, carrying out the actions designed in the initial Action Plan. This phase ends with the submission of an interim report for evaluation in terms of progress and quality.
