The Rector of the University of Cantabria, José Carlos Gómez Sal, today held a meeting with the Executive Vice President of NEC Corporation, Tomonori Nishimura, and other managers of the multinational company.

The visit takes place within the framework of the annual meeting of the Board of Directors of the geographical divisions of NEC (Russia, Ukraine, Europe and the  Middle East) which on this occasion is celebrated in Santander for projects that NEC is carrying out in Cantabria with local partners in the field of smart cities: Conceptual - start up of the University – Heritas,, the UC...

In addition to a global business strategy, the UC undertakes two key projects together with Santander City Halls, which you can see in the Centre of Pronillo:

  • Cloud City Operation Center, which is the management platform Santander SmartCity, with big data functions, machine learning and modelling of the city and data from different verticals. It deals with the prototype which NEC is basing itself on for expansion of the model to the rest of the world.
  • The project management of a smart garbage collection in Santander, which is unfolding largely with technology designed in Cantabria.

These work-lines set the foundations to consolidate Santander as the centre of reference of development of global business of NEC with regards to Smartcities.
