Carlos obtained a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cantabria in 2019. In his final year, he completed an Erasmus+ exchange at Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna, where he did his Bachelor's Thesis in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering. His work focused on the development of biomaterials for healthcare applications.

He then completed a Master’s in Chemical Engineering at the University of Salamanca in 2021. After that, he obtained a Master’s in Molecular Biology and Biomedicine at the University of Cantabria / UPV-EHU in 2022. During this time, he worked with cyanobacteria and studied their growth in the Intergenomics Group at IBBTEC, supervised by Raúl Fernández López. In 2023, he also obtained a title in Bioinformatics Analysis from the University Pablo de Olavide.

Since November 2023, Carlos has been pursuing a PhD in Molecular Biology and Biomedicine under the supervision of Raúl Fernández López. His research focuses on the metabolic signaling pathways involved in light detection by cyanobacteria, using Synechococcus elongatus PCC 7942 as a model organism. His work involves the application of molecular cloning techniques and fluorescence microscopy analysis.
