EQUALITY COMMITTEE

The Institute of Biomedicine and Biotechnology of Cantabria (IBBTEC), a joint centre of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of Cantabria, is firmly committed to equal opportunities and gender equality in the scientific field. The Institute actively promotes the implementation of regulations and the development of specific measures aimed at fostering women’s participation in science, supporting their professional careers, safeguarding the rights of all members of the Institute’s working environment, and preventing any form of harassment or discrimination.

In this context, the IBBTEC Equality Committee plays a key role. It is made up of representatives from the different groups within the Institute: Fuencisla Pilar Cuéllar, Daniel García López, Andrea Quintanilla Cavia, Javier Menéndez Llamazares, Rosa Blanco Fernández and María del Pilar Garcillán Barcia. The Committee acts as an advisory body to the Institute’s management, providing diverse and specialised perspectives for the development of inclusive policies.

Its main responsibilities include preparing and monitoring assessments of the Institute’s internal situation with regard to equality, with particular attention to potential structural biases or discriminatory practices. Based on these assessments, the Committee designs and implements specific action plans aimed at ensuring compliance with the Institute’s equality objectives, as well as establishing monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to ensure their effectiveness in the medium and long term.

Punto Violeta (Violet Point) and Suggestion Box

A Punto Violeta (Violet Point) is a designated space providing information and support on gender-based violence. We have set up a Punto Violeta at the Institute, with information materials available to all staff. We regularly add new materials and updated information.

We also have a Suggestion Box through which anyone at the Institute can contact the Committee if needed. The anonymity of anyone wishing to contact the Committee is safeguarded.

All the information and materials can be found in the photocopying area, on the ground floor.

Breastfeeding Room 

We have also set up a dedicated Breastfeeding Room, equipped with a small refrigerator, blinds to provide greater privacy, and Do Not Disturb signs for the doors. It also has chairs and a large table. The room is located on the ground floor, opposite the cafeteria, in the area labelled 00.18 – Control.
