Abstract: This is the first standalone release of the Python function ; "historical" because it was built from the metadata contained in the netCDF files of the historical CMIP experiments distributed by ESGF. The function was previously published as part of the Python collection https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.4555367 and contains a comprehensive metadata archive for more than 60 Global Climate Models from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phases 5 and 6, built with the help of the model development teams.
