Abstract: The contribution of large population-based study cohorts to the knowledge of disease risk factors and causes is unquestionable. The Framingham Cohort, a paradigm for the population-based studies that changed the history of medicine, emerged after the antibiotic revolution, the decrease in infection-related mortality, and the boom in cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.
