Jose Luis Bosque holds a PhD in Computer Engineering from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) since 2003 and is Full Professor in Computer Architecture and Technology at the Universidad de Cantabria since March 2022. He has been awarded 3 six-years research periods positively assessed, the last one corresponding to the period 2013-2018. His doctoral thesis received the Award of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid to the best PhD Thesis, being one of the first in Spain dedicated to the study of Heterogeneous Systems. His academic career has been clearly marked by mobility, as he has been a professor in 3 different universities. First, he spent three years (1995-1998) at the Universidad de Alcalá and 8 years (1998-2006) Universidad Rey Juan Carlos. From 2006 he is Associate Professor at the Universidad de Cantabria. On the one hand, these movements have been positive due to the participation in very different and multidisciplinary groups and research projects, sometimes carried out in collaboration with companies. On the other hand, the negative effect has been the lack of stability and the effort involved in adapting to a new working groups and trying to fit into their lines of research.
He is currently the leader of the research group of Computer Architecture and Technology, at UC. In addition to collaborating in existing research lines, he leads the area dedicated to the architecture and programming of heterogeneous systems. He is one of the founders of the High-Performance Computing Network on Heterogeneous Parallel Architectures (CAPAP-H) which integrates 36 Spanish research teams. In this line of work has opened new collaborations with researchers from Trinity College Dublin and High-Performance Computing Stuttgart (HLRS). He has also contributed to increasing collaboration with institutions such as the BSC/CNS, the Universidad de Zaragoza, IBM Research, Banco Santander, ARM or Atos/Bull.
He has been principal investigator in five National Research Plan projects, founded by the Spanish government. He has also participated in more than 40 national and international research projects and in 15 contracts with industry. He has published more than 120 scientific articles in peer-reviewed high-quality international journals (9 JCR Q1 journals, 22 in Q2 and 5 in Q3) and conferences (like HPCA, IPDPS, CCGrid,EuroPar) and has acted as reviewer in high quality international publications and conferences. He has been the advisor of 4 PhD Students, plus three more that is currently in progress, three of them funded by FPU grants. He has done a research stay of 6 months in the Trinity College of Dublin, and he is collaborating with researchers of the High-Performance Computing Center in Stuttgart. Between 2015 and 2021 he collaborated as an expert evaluator for the Agencia Estatal de Investigación evaluating 43 projects in various calls for proposals, and since July 2021 he has been Project Manager at the aforementioned agency.
