Daniel Gorri is Full Professor of Chemical Engineering since November 2018. Previously, he has been Assistant Professor (2001-2003), “Ramón y Cajal” Research Associate (2003-2006), Lecturer (2006-2009) and Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering (2009-2018). He graduated as Enologist (1987), working for a long period (1988-1996) as a laboratory technician at the National Institute of Viticulture (San Rafael, Argentina). He simultaneously completed his university studies, obtaining a 6-year degree in Chemical Engineering (1995) from the Universidad Tecnológica Nacional, San Rafael, Argentina. Subsequently, he carried out doctoral studies at the University of Cantabria, obtaining the title of Doctor in Chemical Engineering (2000). In 2005 he carried out a postdoctoral stay for 6 months at the University of Bologna.

His research activity is focused on membrane separation processes (pervaporation, gas permeation, membrane distillation, nanofiltration, reverse osmosis) and on the use of ionic liquids in separation processes. His research interests also include chemical process modeling, simulation and optimization. He has participated as a researcher in more than 40 research projects / contracts, having been Principal Investigator 12 times. His research activity has been recognized with the award of four 6-year research periods (sexenios) by the Ministry of Education and Science.

Numerous contributions have been made in the modeling and development of separation processes with selective membranes for the separation of liquid mixtures (pervaporation) and gas permeation including different case studies of industrial interest. Other research activities included the experimental study, modeling and optimization of hybrid processes that integrate membrane technologies (nanofiltration, reverse osmosis) with electro-oxidation processes for the degradation of persistent compounds called perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs), which are substances of concern in terms of water pollution.

Dr. Gorri has over 60 per review publications, six chapter book contributions, and has been involved in more than 130 international meetings. He has been Deputy Coordinator of the Chemical Technology area at ANEP (National Agency for Evaluation and Prospective) from July 2015 to June 2018.

He was Coordinator of the doctoral program “Chemical, Energy and Process Engineering” (2014-2019). He has previously been coordinator of the preceding doctoral programs “Chemical Engineering” (2003-2009) and “Chemical and Process Engineering” (2007-2014), having obtained the Quality Mention from the first call in 2003 and renewed in all the following calls. He has been the supervisor / co-supervisor of 9 doctoral theses and is currently supervising another 2 theses in progress.
