I am an Associate Professor at the University of Cantabria (UC). I hold a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Cantabria (2010), having defended a thesis titled ‘Theoretical and Experimental Research on Non-Minor Destructive Testing (MDT) Used for In-Situ Mechanical Characterization of Masonry Structures in Built Heritage’. I received the grade of Outstanding cum Laude, along with the Extraordinary Doctorate Award in the area of Technical Education and the Royal Academy of Doctors of Spain Award in the field of Experimental and Technological Sciences. Additionally, I hold a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering (2004, six-year program) and a Master’s Degree in Building Technology and Management (2009). I have completed research stays at the Tecnalia Technology Center and the University of Bath in the United Kingdom.
From a teaching perspective, in recent years, I have participated in courses for the following programs: Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Master's Degree in Historical and Territorial Heritage, and Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Currently, I am the Director and a Professor of the UC-UIMP International Master’s in Building Technology, Rehabilitation, and Management, which has had 17 editions. This postgraduate program has been awarded the AUIP International Award for Quality in Postgraduate Studies in Ibero-America.
I am the lead researcher of the Building Technology Group (GTED-UC), having supervised 5 doctoral theses. I am the author of more than 125 technical contributions in journals and conferences, of which 61 are indexed in Scopus. This includes 19 articles in JCR-Q1 journals (8 in the first decile) and another 8 in JCR-Q2 journals. I am also the author/editor of 25 books, several of which are indexed in Scopus, and various book chapters. I have participated in 20 R&D projects funded through public calls and more than 60 contracts with companies and/or administrations. I belong to 7 technical associations.
In relation to knowledge transfer activities, I have participated in organizing more than 40 conferences, technical workshops, courses, and seminars. Notable among these are the 37th IAHS World Congress on Housing Science and the REHABEND Congress series on ‘Construction Pathology, Rehabilitation Technology, and Heritage Management’, with 10 editions already held.
From an academic management perspective, I am currently the Deputy Director of the Department of Structural Engineering and Mechanics and the UC Coordinator of the Academic Committee of the inter-university Doctoral Program (UPV/EHU, UC, UPC) in Architectural, Civil, Urban Heritage, and Rehabilitation of Existing Buildings. I also serve on the ‘Degree and Master’s Degree Engineering and Architecture 2’ Commission of the ANECA Verifica and Monitor Program (ANECA is the Spanish National Agency for Evaluation and Accreditation).
