My research career is centred on understanding the molecular, microbial and biochemical determinants of human reproductive health through an integrative and translational approach. My work has contributed to advancing the characterisation of the upper reproductive tract microbiome and the functional composition of reproductive fluids by combining culturomics, sequencing-based microbiome profiling, metabolomics and molecular analyses. This research line has resulted in 30 publications indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection, including several first- and corresponding-author articles, an h-index of 10, and more than 230 citations, reflecting a coherent and steadily growing scientific trajectory in biomedicine.
A major achievement of my career has been the development and patenting of the first device for the in vivo collection of human uterine fluid (P201930958; EP20882982.0), derived from my doctoral research. This innovation addresses a long-standing methodological limitation in reproductive medicine and received competitive funding from Fundación “la Caixa” through CaixaImpulse Innovation 2023 to support its clinical validation and market translation. This initiative led to the creation of the biomedical spin-off Gynetools Salud Ginecológica S.L., demonstrating my capacity for knowledge transfer and the translation of research findings into clinically relevant solutions. In parallel, I led the development and certification of Biobank-Mur, the first biobank of human reproductive fluids in Spain, currently supporting clinical studies and collaborative biomedical research.
My trajectory includes strong international training within the Marie Sklodowska-Curie ITN REP-BIOTECH programme, including research stays at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, University of Tartu and the Jesús Usón Minimally Invasive Surgery Centre. I have participated in several national and international projects, including GLOMICAVE, IRENE, Endo-Map and PROTEGG, and regularly present my work at major scientific congresses such as European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology and Association of Embryologists of Spain, establishing a broad collaborative network across reproductive biology, microbiome research and clinical biomedicine.
I have progressively developed scientific independence through project leadership, translational research and academic activities. Since February 2026, I have held a position as Assistant Professor in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Cantabria, where I combine teaching in anatomy and embryology with ongoing research activities. Previously, I worked at the Fundación para la Investigación Biosanitaria de Andalucía Oriental Alejandro Otero (FIBAO) as Project Manager of Use Case 1 within the GRACE project (HORIZON-JU-IHI-2024), coordinating clinical workflows, protocol development and interactions between clinical, academic and technological partne
