Sustainable development is a core principle of the Treaty on European Union and a high priority for the EU´s policies. Sustainable economic growth has evolved in recent years increasing citizen and firm´s concerns about the climate and environmental crisis. The role of European policies in promoting this change has been key, but many challenges remain to be addressed to further support the transition to a more sustainable and competitive economy. Implementing all these EU plans and strategies requires the cooperation of economic actors, consumers, citizens and civil society organizations. Our proposal contributes to the European Green Deal Communication strategy, which recognizes the key role of schools and universities in engaging pupils, parents and the community in the changes needed for a successful transition to climate neutrality by 2050. In this respect, we believe that it is worth making every effort to raise awareness among today's young people of the importance of the environmental factors and strategies that will shape their future. This will be the main purpose of this module.
Our main goal is the promotion and extension of the teaching and research about the EU at the University of Cantabria. We intend to make our students aware of the climate and environmental problems facing society, along with the role of European institutions in the development of a green and sustainable economy. The module offers 94 hours of classes per year together with other activities such as workshops, public lectures, games, experiments, exhibitions and the Energy Transition Observatory. We expect over 700 students per year in teaching and nearly 2000 participants in other actions. We think that if young people are able to know and understand all the advances and opportunities they enjoy because they are part of the EU, they will be willing to collaborate in the formation of a more lasting and stable Economic and Financial Union. This is the true added value of our Project.
