Abstract: Voltage events are one of the most severe power quality disturbances in modern power systems because of their detrimental effect on equipment. The development of new methods for detection and evaluation of voltage events is at present a major concern. This paper presents an extensive literature review of the application of wavelet transforms in the detection and analysis of voltage events and provides a short description of the different methods proposed. The different proposals for real-time implementation of wavelets and the de-noising methods used to enhance the capabilities of the wavelet-based detection methods are also reviewed.
