Abstract: To evaluate if age is an independent prognostic factor of survival(IPFS) in patients with lung cancer(LC) and pulmonary resection(PR) Retrospective analysis of 783 patients with PR for LC between 2005-2018. They were divided by age: GroupA?69 years(n=509),B70-79(239) and C?80 (35). Univariate survival analysis was undertaken utilising log-rank test. Cox regression multivariate analysis was carried out accounting for the independent variables of sex, ECOG, BMI, FEV1% predicted, TNM, histological type and ThRCRIscore 783patients(mean age 64.6;77.5%men) 24% were current smokers and 63.1% ex-smokers.37% of patients were TNM Stage 2A. The most common histological type was adenocarcinoma(42.8%). Univariate analysis showed statistically significant differences in survival by age group(p<0.001). However, upon utilising the multivariate analysis, age ceased to be an independent variable. Instead, the variables of sex, ECOG and TNM were revealed as independent prognostic factors. Cox regression survival curve for age adjusted for the 7variables showed the increased survival of patients inC compared to B Age is not an IPFS. Patients of GroupC have similar survival prognoses compared toB.
