Implementing 3D printing in teacher education to enhance Earth science teaching in Spanish schools

Abstract: An innovative strategy has been developed and implemented to introduce the teaching of 3D printing of educational resources in undergraduate degrees in Early Childhood and Primary Education. This proposal aims primarily to enhance teacher training in the field of Earth sciences by promoting active methodologies and the use of emerging technologies in the classroom. The implementation is structured into three progressive levels: acquisition of specific English vocabulary, conceptual and technical introduction to 3D printing, and practical sessions in which students design and print educational materials. These activities have been integrated transversally into English and science education courses. The results obtained during the 2024/2025 academic year show a positive reception from students and a solid understanding of the fundamentals and pedagogical applications of 3D printing in Earth sciences.
