 General information and venue

Venue: Room 4, Torre A, Edificio 3 Torres

Santander is the capital of the Region of Cantabria. It has a population of about 180,000 inhabitants. The venue of the UC Staff Week will be Room 4, Floor -1 Torre A, Edificio 3 Torres, located on the Las Llamas campus, close to the city centre.

Participantes may book a hotel nearby the Sardinero beaches (which is a very nice and quiet area at night, but a bit far from the centre) or in the city centre (where there are more shops and restaurants). Please note that the Sardinero area becomes quite a touristic spot in the summertime and subsequently prices may be rather higher.

Distances to the UC are mostly within walking distance and there are also a couple of city bus lines linking the centre with the campus (ticket costs €1,30):

  • 3 Line: "Rectorado" bus stop
  • 7C1 Line: "Avda. de los Castros 83" bus stop
  • 7C2 Line: "Avda. de los Castros 62" or "Interfacultativo" bus stops

If you decide to arrive by taxi, ask the driver to take you to the "Facultad de Económicas", in "Avenida de los Castros" and then go to floor -1.

The weather in Cantabria is usually mild and rainy throughout the year. Don't forget to check the weather forecast prior to your arrival! Please also remember to bring your European Health Insurance Card or private health insurance (valid for the duration of your stay).

We hope you will not have to use it, but if necessary, there is a single phone number for emergencies (health, fire brigade, police, etc.): 112.

How to get to Santander
 Via Madrid:

Via Bilbao:

Via Barcelona:
  • Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport: further away than Bilbao and Madrid and need to take another flight to Santander. Bus is not recommended in this case as it is a long trip (543 Km distance), but if you choose this option, there are buses departing directly from Terminal 1 (T1) and also from Barcelona Nord station. There is no good train connection to Santander.

Directly:
  • Seve Ballesteros-Santander Airport: very close to the city (6 Km distance), but offer of international flights is more limited. You can take either a bus or a taxi to reach Santander's city centre.
