This project studies the dichotomy between the global existence of solutions and the posible occurrence of singular behavior in finite time in problems arising from fluid dynamics. In particular, we study a number of problems considering fluid-structure and fluid-fluid interaction under the effect of gravity. These problems are free boundary problems, i.e. problems where the region occupied by the fluid is unknown and must be determined as part of the solution. Moreover, this project also tries to obtain new asymptotic models that capture the main dynamics of the full problem under consideration.
