The main goal of LIFE-4-Fgases is to contribute to improve the sustainability of the RAC sector through
the demonstration, with a concept-based prototype, of an innovative process to efficiently
separate value-added HFCs from high-GWP refrigerant mixtures contained in EoL
refrigeration equipment, for their use in the formulation of novel environmentally-friendly
refrigerant mixtures with low-GWP, thus minimizing the impact of the RAC sector on climate change.
To that goal, the integration of advanced separation processes powered by HAMSYS technology will be
addressed. Boosting the efficient recovery and recycling of key HFCs for the RAC market through LIFE-
4-Fgases will have a very direct contribution to significantly reduce the emissions of HFCs and
their impact on climate change, while maximising the use of resources by increasing the lifespan of
refrigerant gases and avoiding the emissions related to the conventional management.
This main objective enshrines the construction, demonstration and optimization of an
innovative HAMSYS installation to selectively recycle HFC blends (first installation of its kind
worldwide), as well as its operation in a real environment at the industrial WMF of Ambigroup
located in Arrentela (Seixal, PT).
