Re/Examining Gender Matters in Iris Murdoch´s the Black Prince

Abstract: ABSTRACT: Since studies on Iris Murdoch´s fiction have generally overlooked gender issues, this essay aims to fill this void by offering a feminist reading of one of her best-known novels, The Black Prince (1973).More specifically, I contend that the representation of an apparently androcentric viewpoint in The Black Prince lays bare the multiple ways in which gender affects not only the protagonist´s experience and interaction with the world that surrounds him, but also the author´s approach to ethics underlying her novel.
