Abstract: DEAREDITOR, Mycosis fungoides (MF) is the most frequent type of primary cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL). The genesis and progression of the disease may differ greatly between patients. Patients with early-stage disease have a good prognosis, with 10-year overall survival (OS) rates of 50-90%. However, the prognosis for patients with advanced-stage disease is poorer, with 10-year OS rates of 15-53% and a median OS of 2-5years.Our current understanding of CTCL genesis and progression, the mechanisms that differ from those associated with inflammatory dermatitis, and the identification of specific markers associated with clinical variability is hindered by the difficulty of using gene expression or mutational studies to analyse formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) samples with a relatively small neoplastic component. Consequently, the introduction of molecular diagnostics and/or targeted therapy in the clinical management of CTCLs has been hampered by the difficulty of identifying reliable markers that refine the diagnosis and predict sensitivity to targeted therapy.
