Experimental study on stiffness development of asphalt mixture containing cement and Ca(OH)2 as contribution filler

Abstract: The research is based on the study of the stiffness of the bituminous mixture as a function of the mineralogy, size and shape of the filler particles, obtaining and analyzing the results from relevant laboratory tests. For this purpose, it has considered using two different types of filler, because in this way, the differences between them can be easily deduced based on their nature. The fillers on the bituminous mixtures used were Portland cement (CEM II/A-L 32.5 R) and calcium hydroxide, since they are materials that in previous studies proved to have different stabilities against external agents. Based on the data analyzed in this research shows that not all filler used presents the same behavior, if the study is based on the shape of its particles. Moreover, such behavior depends on other material properties, such as chemical or mineralogical characteristics, which can influence the adhesion or adhesiveness in the filler–bitumen system.
