Comments on " A general theoretical solution for the consolidation of a composite foundation" by K.-H. Xie, M.-M. Lu, A.-F. Hu and G.-H. Chen [Computers and Geotechnics 36 (2009) 24-30]

Abstract: The authors have developed a new analytical solution to study the consolidation of composite foundations. The solution is based on Han and Ye?s approach, but additionally it includes a smear zone, a finite permeability of the drain and a variable applied load with time and depth. The discussers, who have also developed an analytical solution to study the consolidation around stone columns but including the column radial deformation, which has an important influence on the process [1], would like to comment on the solution and try to clarify some features.
