Abstract: This work aims to extend the understanding in the use of strain gauges in the root of the teeth in order to calculate the load sharing in planetary transmissions. Continuing with the numerical analysis of the accuracy of the experimental measurements, this work studies the influence of the placing of strain gauges in the accuracy of the measurements. Thus, the strain gauges are placed in the ring and sun gears. Furthermore, new effects are added to the simulations in order to enhance its realism. Hence, the stiffness in the sun support is varied, as well as the number of planets is raised. Finally, the results show discrepancies between the real load sharing and the measured load sharing, more importantly, these differences prove that the measurements underestimate the load sharing in the transmission, which could be crucial in the durability and certification of such a transmission.
