My activity is focused on Magnetism of Materials from an experimental standpoint, sharing research with intense lecturing and student training (average 20 ECTS/year). I have been involved in 33 Research Projects since 1988 (13 PI). I am specialised in systems with complex magnetic structures. These are in connection to Biomedical applications in the last years. Most of the projects have been of National character in Coordination. I have also participated in a EU-FP7 project. A lot of the experiments require a regular assistance to Large Facilities (LFs) in which an external committee evaluates the proposals. I have performed more than 35 experiments (synchrotron, muon and neutrons) in LFs. The access to beamtime is competitive. There is proven contact with international groups. This has crystallised in results of basic and biomedical research (the latter within an EU project). I have already supervised 6 PhD (always when a PhD grant was available). We have boosted R+D+i relationships with regional companies (Teka, GIRA cluster, Sidenor, etc.). In 2019, the X-ray diffraction service at UC I am leading got the FDA (USA) approval to conduct experiments for the company Moehs Ibérica. I am the scientific director for the use of 200 kV TEM at the SERMET (U. Cantabria,) since 2008. The instrumentation in the F. Ciencias lab has been exploited by several groups in UC (Alta Presión, Ing. Química, Química, Física Teórica). There is a large tradition of service and common work with researchers across Spain (UPV/EHU, INMA, Madrid, Oviedo, with contacts in U. Barcelona, IMDEA, ICMM), and abroad (U. Hyderabad, UCL, T. U. Wien, etc.).
