Abstract: Since the introduction of competition and the application of the principle of financial sufficiency, Spanish Port Authorities have developed their business in a highly competitive environment. Against this background, and considering that the Spanish Port System may be oversized, it seems interesting to know the position of each Port Authority by analyzing its strengths and weaknesses. The objective of this study is to conduct a comparative analysis of the Galician Port Authorities in terms of the variable "innovative effort". First we analyze its strengths and weaknesses compared to the national situation and then we carry out a comparative analysis and benchmarking between the mentioned authorities.
