Visit: IES BesayaVisit: IES Besaya

34 students of the IES Besaya (Torrelavega) visited the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department on April 11th, 2025, in the framework of an educational technical and teaching project. Dr. Antonio Dominguez welcomed the students and delivered a talk about the role of Chemical Engineers and their relevance to the Sustainable Development Goals. Next, they performed the experiments in the labs designed in the dissemination project “OUR MISIONS" related to Climate Change, Energy and Health Engineering. They also participated in a very interesting Escape Room about electrochemical engineering.

We hope you enjoyed it!!

2025-04-10T22:00:00Z1933

LIFE-3E ProjectLIFE-3E Project

On March 27th, to mark World Water Day, an open day was held at the Comillas Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) to present the LIFE-3E project. This initiative focuses on wastewater reuse and energy recovery through innovative technologies such as Reverse Electrodialysis (RED), using the salinity gradient between seawater and treated wastewater. The renewable energy generated is used to power the tertiary treatment, promoting water regeneration and its reuse for street cleaning, among other applications.

Our colleague Tamara Sampedro participated in the event, explaining the pilot plant's operation as she is involved in the LIFE-3E project, overseeing its day-to-day operations. Visitors had the opportunity to tour the facilities and laboratory, learn about the pilot plant's function, and hear about the project's latest developments.

The event was attended by Pedro Ruiz, Director of MARE; María Sainz, Director of Sanitation Management; Raquel Ibáñez, Professor at the University of Cantabria; María Teresa Noceda, Mayor of Comillas, along with members of the municipal council; technical staff from UC and MARE; and personnel from Seys-Ciclagua, the company awarded the contract for the operation and maintenance of the WWTP and the associated sanitation system.

2025-04-10T22:00:00Z1937
