The Institute of Biomedicine and Biotechnology of Cantabria (IBBTEC) is a joint Institute belonging to the University of Cantabria (UC), the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), and the regional goverment, though its Society for the Development of Cantabria (SODERCAN). The main objetive of the Institute is to carry out high quality scientific research in the biological field, both in basics and applicated aspects, with the aim of knowledge generation, and transfer results and technology to the productive sector. 









This technology transfer orientation is concentrated in the Business Development and Bioincubator Unit (UDEB), a facility where both, collaborative projects with companies and scientific-entrepreneurial spirit can be developed. IBBTEC also born with the mission of working side by side with other biomedical scientific institutions based in Cantabria: IDIVAL (Marques de Valdecilla Research Institute), University of Cantabria's Faculty of Medicine, and Marques de Valdecilla University Hospital.

Scientific staff at IBBTEC comes from both University of Cantabria and Spanish National Research Council, and develop projects funded from national and international competitive calls, and also from R&D contrats signed with private companies.

In addition of their high quality research, assured by the impact factor of the corresponding scientific publications, part of our scientific staff also participate in Bs, Ms, and PhD teaching, with a high number of PhD Thesis directed.
